"Suburban Motel" Opens at 1st Stage McLean, Va. – 1st Stage, Tysons Corner's professional non-profit theatre, ends its second season with “Suburban Motel”, a pair of one-act comedies set in a seedy motel. This cult hit by George F. Walker is a dark and screamingly funny cycle of plays that take place in the same motel room. It opens June 11 and runs through July 3. The 1st Stage production presents two of the six plays in Walker's cycle, "Featuring Loretta", directed by Jason Schlafstein, and "Risk Everything", directed by David Winkler. The comedies introduce us to a pack of bizarre characters with a determined instinct to survive -- but without the capacity to think their way out of trouble, bad luck, or the seedy motel room. The theatre, located near Leesburg Pike and the Dulles Toll Road, is the creation of a group of teachers, artists and actors in Fairfax County who wanted to bring professional theatre to Tysons Corner and, in doing so, give local artists an opportunity to grow in their careers. In its first two seasons, 1st Stage debuted the talent of nearly 30 actors, designers and directors. Editors: Press night is Saturday, June 12, at 8 p.m.
